Raspberry Plum – The Art of Ballet Russes

This season Raspberry Plum’s inspiration derives from the most celebrated and innovative ballet company of the 20th century, Ballet Russes. A travelling ballet company based initially in Paris that performed between 1909 and 1929 throughout Europe, and on tours to North and South America. In fact, the company never performed in Russia, the Revolution seemingly put them off.

Ballet Russes was noted for collaborating with the likes of Alexandre Benois, Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse amongst many others including influential composers, designers and dancers of the day. And it is this collaborative diversity that forms the inspiration behind Raspberry Plum’s collection.

Oversized shapes, balloon sleeves and puffed collars provide a theatrical note for girls. Graphic inspiration, embroiled jersey accents and ballet inspired appliqué details for boys. Fusing history with fashion-led contemporary design for children. Bold colouring, artistically creative yet a very wearable collection.
