NAME: Margherita Maccapani Missoni Amos
BORN IN: Somma Lombardo, near Varese (Italy)
LIVING IN: the countryside near Varese
YOU ARE WORKING AS: Fashion Designer
PLEASE DESCRIBE YOURSELF IN 1 OR 2 SENTENCES: “I’m responsible, a curious mother and a fun-seeking business woman.”

Born in Northern Italy, Margherita Maccapani Missoni Amos, is the eldest daughter of Angela Missoni, Creative Director of the renowned brand Missoni, and the granddaughter of the house’s founders. Having grown up in the idyllic countryside of Sumirago, amidst a family of fashion designers, she developed a keen eye and a unique sense of personal style from at a very young age. She also dreamed of becoming a designer like the women in her family. After University, Margherita studied drama in New York, then moved to Paris and Rome to pursue a career in acting. During this time, she also functioned as Missoni Brand Ambassador.
Margherita eventually settled back in Sumirago and began consulting on important projects, such as the Missoni for Target collaboration, and joined the Missoni creative team as the Designer of Accessories, Swim, and Missoni Girls. Shortly after meeting her husband, Eugenio, a race car driver, she started a family of her own. Following the birth of her two sons, Margherita brought her innate sense of style, entrepreneurial spirit and personal experience as a mum to her distinguished kidswear collection, Margherita Kids, which launched in March 2015.
The label offers an assortment of loveable, affordably priced styles with one-of-a-kind appeal for little girls, size infant to age seven.
The SS17 collection, out on February, has been designed to encourage children to embrace their own artistic natures through clothing… this new range reflects Margherita’s signature style throughout an assortment of charming and distinctive pieces including dresses, tops, bottoms and outerwear that can be easily mixed and matched to create a wide range of playful outfits.

1. Which is the most fascinating even simple item you ever bought for children?
A trampoline.

2. Is there one children’s shop which has put a magic spell on you?
I’m still devastated by the closing of FAO Schwarz. It was such a magical place, for children and parents alike.

3. Do you remember one special item you had been wearing almost day and night when you were a child?
When I was a child I was obsessed with a polka dot flamenco dress. Being exposed to so many different aesthetic visions and the freedom of creating from a young age has always made me believe anything is possible. This is something that I want to communicate with my own brand now to let kids dress how they like by mixing pieces in their closets so that they are able to develop their own tastes.

4. Your favourite children’s book?
L’omino dei sogni by Gianni Rodari.

5. Which museum even kids would spend hours in?
At Villa Panza, in Varese, there is a great permanent collection of conceptual art by Dan Flavin that all children absolutely love.

6. You are based closed to  Milan. What’s the best place for kids there?
Mantra Raw Vegan is a great place to buy healthy sweets that my kids love.

7. Your favourite restaurant and hotel?
My favourite restaurant is Latteria San Marco in Milano.
The hotel, Hotel Gritti Palace in Venice.

8. The ONE family ritual you cherish most?
Having a bath with my children.

9. Did you expect to become a designer when you were a child?
Yes, I always knew I would become a designer. Every afternoon of my life as a child was spent playing with threads and fabrics, playing dress up and taking photos with models, and dressing my dolls. Many of my early memories have fashion in them.

10. What’s your favorite Instagram account?
love.watts

11. Please complete this sentence: Kids are amazing because they make me…
