V&A Museum of Childhood:
Tales by Sonya Hurtado
Tales is a series of images by Spanish, but London-based, photographer Sonya Hurtado, which explores the imaginary world of childhood.
Set in the context of fairy tales and children’s stories, the pictures are conceived almost like paintings, collages and thought-provoking messages.
Drawing inspiration from surrealism, film and graffiti, Sonya uses the digital manipulation to create a playful and at times sinister atmosphere.
“We can’t always protect our children but we can help them to interpret their experiences, to understand themselves and life” – explains.
Through narrative subjects from familiar stories, the 12 photographs examine how children may struggle to come to terms with complex emotions and situations.
The exhibition is held at V&A Museum of Childhood in London.
