Tommy Hilfiger Kids –
2020 American Pioneers on a 1985 adventure
Starting a phenomenon does not start with the phenomenon. It wouldn’t begin deliberately. When Tommy Hilfiger established his own brand in 1985, he might have not expected to become this iconic 35 years later. As in the same year teen adventure movies “The Goonies” and “Explorers” came out, they were surely not aware of their inspirational source for new edge hit series like “Stranger Things”. Context? Common ground. Their iconic style roots in 1985.
For the SS2020 season Tommy Hilfiger sends out his “American Pioneers” through “Neo Nautical” gusts on a “21st Century Survival” tour. We get to see nautical-inspired pieces with neon yellow pops, functional fashion with utility details, tonal camouflage, foil, reversible items and the brand’s flag logo in all-over embroidery.
Taking a closer look through our ’85 lens we identify the little enwrought treasures of a retro collection. Hence not only the adult collection includes throwback style pieces, the kids are allowed to be nostalgic, too. Jumping in full-length jumpsuits with snap-buckle belts and buttons on the shoulder line, wide button-up midi skirts with large pockets, reversible satin bomber jackets, blatant unremarkable shirt collars showing from beneath sporty sweaters, water repellant sailing jackets, pure basic polos and hoodies, rolled up blue jeans and denim jackets, camouflage details, white lace-up sneakers and olive utility jackets for an adventurous feel.
Of course, Tommy Hilfiger always stays true to his preppy and nautical style roots. His basic ingredients. The phenomenon.
